The Must-See Brooklyn Parks to Visit

By Vivian Aliu

There are over 1,700 parks to visit in New York City where locals & tourists can have a picnics, watch films and enjoy concerts, but there are three parks in Brooklyn that are my favorite.

Fort Greene Park

""

The Fort Greene Park is a calm, scenic urban escape to chill and enjoy the outdoor scenery. Fort Greene Park Greenmarket is open every Saturday all year round from 8 am to 4 pm with music played by local artists, cooking demonstrations by chefs, and so many family-friendly activities. The park offers free yoga and other workout activities.

""

If you’re a house-head and love to dance your ass off, you must go to Soul Summit. If you like being surrounded by semi-naked sweaty sexy, beautiful people the annual Soul Summit Music Festival brings house music to the community every summer.

""

For you jazz aficionados, on July and September, the annual Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival will be held in the park. The event will bring in an all-star lineup of some the finest musicians in NYC to perform in Fort Greene.

Brooklyn Bridge Park

""

The Brooklyn Bridge Park is a great place to walk around and enjoy the food & drinks and other entertainment that it offers. It’s a great park that has a chill vibe for exploring the public arts, riding Jane’s Carousel, or just people watching. You can cycle here to the park and enjoy the atmosphere and view the city. The park offers free tours and workouts including dance, Zumba, yoga, and so many more.

""

""

If you’re a cinephile Brooklyn Bridge Park host Movies With A View every Thursday evening in July and August. There’s no better place to enjoy the summer outdoors and watching the classic films while you’re enjoying the view of the Manhattan skyline. It’s the cool neighborhood nearby with an array selection of restaurants and cafes.

""

Prospect Park

""

Prospect Park is another great park in the borough where you can stroll and enjoy a nice picnic. If you’re passionate about adventure the park offers kayaking.

""

If peace is what you’re interested Prospect Park offers yoga. The park is also dog friendly where you can walk your dog in this beautiful landscape. Prospect Parks offers free workouts, outdoor farmers market as well as so many exciting events including summer movie night and themed parties. For naturalistas and fashionistas, Prospect Park hosts their annual event CurlFest in July where thousands of people gather to celebrate their natural hair.

""

If you’re passionate about art & culture the park is a nice commute to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum, and other great attractions. Brooklyn Botanic Garden is free every Friday morning between 8 am to noon from March – November.
